Kayleigh Weintraub, Master's Counseling Intern Supervised by Lori Martin, MS, LPC-S

Hello! I’m Kayleigh, a graduate student at Southern Methodist University on the way to complete my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, specializing in children and adolescents. I am under the supervision of the fabulous Lori Martin, MS, LPC-S and the SMU Counseling faculty. I offer play therapy, activity therapy, and individual counseling. My expertise is in anxiety, life transitions, grief, self-esteem, depression, and interpersonal relationships.

I practice through a Cognitive-Behavioral lens, which means I believe that sometimes we develop unrealistic thoughts. These unrealistic thoughts and perceptions can be powerful and affect our bodies, and how we feel, and behave. I view my role as helping clients examine their thoughts and determine how closely they match actual experiences. As we work on making your thoughts and interpretations more accurate, the hurdles you face will likely seem much less intimidating. My goal is to help you learn to examine the thoughts you have in your everyday life and teach you to modify them to ones that are more realistic and practical. In my view, this creates healthy and effectual changes. As you do, your feelings and behaviors will likely be a lot less problematic. As we work together, I will strive to be an attentive, accepting, empathic person to talk to, and I believe you will gain clarity, peace, and grow throughout the therapeutic process. My skills can be adapted to work with children who may still be growing cognitively and developmentally. Regardless of the age of the client, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is vital.
